O’Connell: We Will Have To Be At Our Best To Get A Result

by November 15, 2019

Brendan O’Connell has been there and done it at every level but for certain this fixture will always keep you excited and tonight he is expecting another typical local derby.

“We’re looking forward to the game, St Mary’s are a very good team and we will have to be at our best to get any sort of a result, we’ve been doing well in recent weeks though and we’re hoping to continue that tonight,” said O’Connell.

Under the lights on a cold winter night will add to the occasion and a big crowd will ensure a good atmosphere in one of Cork’s most revered fixtures.

“We will be under pressure tonight as we have a few injuries but there’s a big squad there packed with quality so it’s a chance for players to cement their place in the team, it will be a typical derby game and I’d be surprised if there was more than a goal or two in it,” commented Brendan.

A big setback for Rockmount was their recent elimination from the FAI Intermediate Cup but there’s still multiple trophies to play for and O’Connell believes they will be in the hunt for silverware including the upcoming Keane Cup final.

“We were disappointed to lose out in the FAI Intermediate Cup but there’s plenty still to play for and the plan is to keep plugging away and hopefully pick up a trophy before the end of the season.

“We have the Keane Cup final soon and of course the Premier League title is a big priority for us so we have lots to play for and I’m sure we’ll be there or thereabouts at the end,” concluded O’Connell.
